6.15.17
week 3.
After testing the hamstring in the days leading up to this race, I felt good about pushing again. While I was only 10 days out from BSL 70.3, I felt like I could still run hard and be ok.
A few more FWTRI folk showed up for this one, and, it was Katherine's birthday, so, there was a little extra energy around this one. Katherine was turning 24, and, the her nickname amongst our group is "93" as that is the year that she was born. I joked that my target for this race would be 25:33 (24 minutes and 93 seconds), as a nod to Katherine's birthday. In order to hit that time, I would need to book my fastest T5000 since late in the 2015 series. But, my legs were feeling good, so, might as well push...
I got out way too fast and was well ahead of many of my fast friends. I knew I was in trouble. Mile 1: 7:32. I slowed to 8:14 from mile 2, which was a more comfortable pace, but, the damage was done. I began to get passed by several fast friends. Mile 3 was a slow 8:47. I was able to pick it up done the stretch and post a 25:30. 3 seconds faster than my target, and my fastest time since week 8 of the 2015 series. Better than I deserved. Jan had a tough night, and I was able to pick up 1st in Clydesdale for the evening.
