6.1.17
year 3 for this series for me.
I've really enjoyed this race series over the past few years, as I've made many new running buddies, and, I've been able to focus on running "fast" at least once per week. I had some decent times in 2015, getting down into the 7's a few races, but, was slower in 2016.
I raced clydesdale in 2016, as my weight was over 200. I'd hoped to be lighter going into this year, but, alas, since Cowtown, my weight has hovered just above 200...so...clydesdale it is.
Week 1 of this series just happened to fall on Griffin's bday, so, this race would be a family affair. Gage, after claiming he would not run another 5k after his memorial day run was ready to lace them up again, and, Lindsi and Griffin were good to go as well.
We arrived early to get everyone signed up, and Ricky was kind enough to give Griff a bday shout out before the race.
After a fast run on Monday, I hoped to push again for this one. I positioned myself towards the front of the pack, and, got off to a fast start. Johnny was pacing off of me, and, we booked a 7:50 1st mile. I had Jan in my sights, who is also racing Clydesdale, but, he was really pushing...I was just hoping he would slow down.
Just as we passed the 1 mile mark, I felt my hamstring beginning to act up again. It had been much better over the past few weeks, but, I could tell it was about to pull again. I told Johnny I needed to slow dow, and, slow down I did. I slowed to a 8:41 mile 2. By mile 3, I was taking walk breaks to try and avoid further injury. Mile 3: 9:24. I pushed best I could for the finish, but, finished frustrated and sore. My 26:54 time was still good enough for 2nd in Clydesdale behind Jan, but, it is time to baby the hamstring for awhile. I need it to be better before BSL 70.3.
Griffin came in just shortly after me and booked a REALLY solid 27:49. 8:58 pace and a new PR by almost 3 minutes! He's getting fast!!
Gage and Lindsi finished shortly after. Good day for the fam!
