7.6.17
Week 6. Standings: Jan 3, Derek 2.
I'd had a good run on Tuesday, and knew that my legs were feeling better after my lingering injuries and Buffalo Springs. It was my hope to replay last week's plan with better execution. Low 8's to start...controlled...maintain pace without blowing up.
Mile 1: 7:54. A little faster than I expected, but, I felt ok. I was ahead of all those I needed to beat. I made the turn and saw Katherine and Jan not far behind. In addition, Jason wasn't too far back. Mile 2 8:05. I was still at a sub 8 pace overall, and we had a little wind at our backs as we headed home. I could feel my heart racing a bit, so, I walked the water stop, but, didn't walk for long, as I knew Jan wasn't far behind. Katherine passed me at that point and gave me the obligatory ass slap. I picked the pace back up, and kept her in my sights. Even with the short walk break, I booked a 8:12 mile 3. Total time: 24:57. Only 12 second behind Katherine and good for 1st place in Clydesdale. I had not run this course this fast since late in the 2015 series, and, 4th fastest out of 25 attempts. I'll take it.
The next few weeks will be fun as Jan and I battle it out for the series title.
