2017 Trinity 5000 Summer Series Week 5

6.29.17

Week 5...just a few days off of BSL70.3.

I'd taken a few days off since Lubbock, but, my legs were beginning to feel good again.

Going into this race,  Jan was up 2 points in the series standings.  While I was not necessarily feeling the need to push, it would be nice to get a point back by beating him in this one.

I had a plan going into the race...run low 8's and try to hang on as long as I could.  I'd made the mistake in several recent races of getting out too fast and not being able to maintain the pace.  control, I told myself as I neared the start line.

Mile 1:  8:02.  Likely a little fast, but, not the mid 7 pace that always led to issues.  Kathrine had settled in behind me, and was keeping me moving.

We passed Jan a little before mile 1.  He seemed to be having a tough night.  We made the turn at 1.55 and headed back.   I was able to hold a good pace.  Mile 2:  8:11

At the 2 mile water stop I motioned to Katherine that I was going to walk the water stop.  I'd run out of gas.  I suspect that my legs were not fully recovered from Lubbock yet.  Over the next mile, I walked a bit, every so often looking back to make sure that I would not be passed by Jan or Jason.  Even with a slow 9:27 mile 3, I was able to hold on for the win and make up a point.

Griffin medaled too...so proud of that boy!
