After 2 years of complaining about Austin 70.3, finally, change was coming. Thru the hard work of our friend, Nancy, Austin 70.3 was dead, and Waco 70.3 was born. Most everyone we knew would be racing in Waco, as it was close to home, and, we wanted to support Nancy.
Lindsi and I would have the opportunity to race together, which I was pumped about, and, several months prior to the race, I'd talked Hider into racing his 1st triathlon ever...at the 70.3 distance.
As referenced in my last post, my training had been poor since IMTX. I knew I'd need to ramp up to be ready for Waco, so, picked up the training in September and October. While I was still well above my racing weight, I felt good ability my ability to compete the distance.
We'd seen have rains over the weeks leading to the race, and, it appeared more and more as if the swim would be canceled due to overrun and flooding in the Brazos...
...blog resumed 3.15.2021 (yup 2+ years later)
The quick and dirty on this one...
Lindsi and I would finally get to race together and Hider would race his 1st 70.3 (and triathlon)
time trial start on this one due to cancelled swim:
considering how out of shape I was, not a bad ride at 17 mph: https://www.strava.com/activities/1933161909
I had a damn picnic in T2 and headed out for the "run".
Cameron Park has BRUTAL hills and the day had turned hot. I walked most of the course and turned in a 3:23. https://www.strava.com/activities/1933161954
I headed straight to the medical tent with hopes of an IV as I was severely dehydrated. Alas, only liquids for me. I finally mustered up the strength to get back to the finish line to see Lindsi finish. That was pretty great.
1 and done on this one. I didn't enjoy it and its f'ing waco. There are better destinations.
