The Cowtown 13.1 2018

2.25.18

The Cowtown - the home town race. My IMTX training began 1.23.18, so, by this time, my running volume had increased, including a few 10 milers. I certainly was better prepared than I was for Houston.

That said, Cowtown was meant to be only a training run, and, I'd been quite sick in the week heading into the race. As a result, expectations were low.

It was a cold morning, but, being a close race, I was able to sit in the Jeep at the race site to stay warm for a bit. I arrived just in time for the FWTRI photo.

Several of us were in the same starting corral, and, it just so happened that my buddy Jon was pacing at 2:10 (9:55 / mile). I figured I'd stay close to him for the day.

I got out to a good start. I was running by myself, slightly ahead of the pace group, without headphones, but, felt good.

All was good until mile 9(ish), when I saw Jan near Main Street Hill. He was having some knee issues. I stopped to walk / jog with him up the hill. He finally told me to go ahead. But, by then, I was running out of gas. The next 3 miles would be slow with some longer walk stretches on Lancaster.

The best part of the day was seeing the family at Lancaster and University. It was just the boost I needed to finish strong.

I made my way back to the family to cheer in the rest of our racing buddies. It was a ton of fun.

Another great day at Cowtown.
