Bronda's Du 2016

11.13.16

6th time to race this course.

I know what to expect...small field, fast athletes.

While my training regimen had decreased since Austin, I was still feeling good, and the aches and pains that I'd experienced post Austin had subsided.  This would be the last multi-sport race of the year, and, I wanted for it to be a good one.

Much like last week, this was a later start time (9), so, there would be no need for an early morning.

I arrived a little before 8, and, had plenty of time to prep gear, set up transition, and visit with racing buddies before the event.  The temps were cool, but, not cold.  My FWTri kit with arm warmers and calf sleeves would suffice.

Run 1:  When the race began, I settled into a 8:30ish pace and felt great.  I booked 8:29, 8:37.  My fastest split in this run in 12 attempts.

T1:  Uneventful, but, a little slow:  1:14.

Bike:  I wanted to push towards 20 mph for this ride.  This was my 1st time to race this course on the tri bike, and I wanted to stay aero as much as possible and mash the pedals.  My 5 mile laps were:  16:28 (18.2 mph), 15:55 (18.8 mph), and, 16:07 (18.6 mph).  Strava had me at 18.7 mph overall.  The results show me slightly slower, at 18.6.  My fastest bike leg ever on this course in 6 attempts.

T2:  slow, as I had an issue with one of my shoes:  1:40.

Run 2:  I was a little stiff getting off of the bike, but finally loosened up and booked 9:11, 8:41.  My 3rd fastest run leg in 12 attempts.

Overall:  1:31:20.  A 4 1/2 minute PR on this course.  I'n still not one of the fast guys, and, may never be, but, I'm pleased with my progress.

Duathlons on this course:

11.2013:  1:40:28
02.2014:  1:37:03
11.2014:  1:44:50
02.2015:  1:39:23
11.2015 (USAT Long Course Du)
02.2016:  1:35:57
11.2016:  1:31:20

A good way to end the multi-sport season.
