This is a great race.  700 athletes.  50 meter pool.

Lot's of friends racing this one today, so, I decided to use this as a tune up for Austin.

Swim:  7:14.  Steady.  I'll take Austin a little slower next week.  Fastest swim ever at Monster Keller for me.

T1:  ran past my bike and had to double back.  Other than that, uneventful.

Bike:  1st time to race this course on Tri bike.  Due to construction, the bike course was still the goofy 3 loop course.   See last year's report for more info.  I cranked hard on the bike and posted a 17.9 mph time (18.1 per Strava).  Fastest bike split in this race for me.

T2:  slow.  I sat to put on shoes.  As I was exiting transition, I felt some back pain.

Run:  easy.  I went into the race thinking I would push on the run, but, some tightness and pain kept me from it.  I didn't want to risk an injury before Austin.

Overall:  1:25:42.  56 seconds slower than last year...all on the run.

31 of 55 in AG.  Meh.

2016: 1:25:42
2015: 1:24:46
2014: 1:26:42
2013: 1:31:49

Friends of the River 6k 2016

10.20.16

take 3.

This is a great event that benefits Streams and Valleys.  Since becoming familiar with the event, I've attended every year.

I was on the fence about racing this year, but, after almost 7 weeks of not racing, I decided it was time.  I saw several running and tri buddies before the event, which was fun.

I was positioned near the start of the starting chute, but, knew I wouldn't be able to hang with the fast folks for long.

When the horn sounded, I got out to a fast start (for me).  I finally throttled back a bit, but, still booked a 7:58 mile 1.  I slowed for miles 2 and 3, booking 8:34 and 8:46, respectively.  I ran up the big hill on 10th, and finished with a time of 30:03.  Strava shows me at 8:30 a mile, but, official results show me at 8:04.

A poorly managed race, but, I have not really run for speed all year.  I stuck around the party and ate after, but, my current non-drinking stance kept me from staying long.  I'll be back next year.

In related news, damn FW Tri club is fast!  We had several club members pacing between the low 6's and mid 7's, and, lots of AG winners...
