Collin Classic 2013

6.8.13

Next up, The Collin Classic. This event, in its 22nd year, hosted more than 2600 riders this year.  Scott encouraged me to participate in this event, and, I'm glad he did.  This event was well organized, the rest stops were well coordinated, the start was seamless, the after ride food and event were good, and the roads were good. I'll definitely do this one again next year.  The long route on this one was 64 miles. We positioned ourselves in the starting chute at the 16+ mph position.  We got off to a fast start, and averaged 17.7 mph for the 1st 30 miles. The roads were hard and fast and we had a slight tailwind. Post ride, I was surprised to find that we had completed over 3650 feet of climbing, as this felt like a flat, fast course. The stats:  64.09 miles in 3:54:21. 16.4 mph and 4307 calories burned.

streaking.

Last week, I saw a FB post from an old friend that mentioned a run streak sponsored by Runners World. The premise: run a minimum of 1 mile per day from Memorial Day to July 4. 39 total days. Now, I don't like running much, and have not run consistently since the mid 90's, but, with my fitness level improving, and my somewhat competitive nature, I bought into this challenge. I'm only 6 days in, but, the results are hard to ignore. Over my last several 5k's, I have averaged 10 - 10:30 minute miles. Slow. After just a week of consistent running, I have booked several sub-9 minute miles. Due to this improvement and my aforementioned competitive nature, I suspect some 10k's, half marathons, and, dare I say, marathons may be worth pursuing. Time will tell.
